Except that is not how capitalism and the business world works. If they don't have to offer overtime, then the majority will refuse to offer overtime and there will be no true choice.
The idea of competition solving all ills is a fallacy where for the majority of businesses providing as little benefit as possible will work. Companies can give the hard workers more through incentive programs and a bonus structure. In that sense they will not be getting the same as the lazy person. And in Bonus structures and incentives is where companies should compete, and do compete. Cameron, if what you are saying about competitiveness being the answer were true, there would never have been the need for a mandated minimum wage. We need a minimum wage because without it the majority of companies will pay next to nothing. It is cynical, but it isn't realistic.
