All of this ignores the fact that it really doesn't matter what Sam thinks.
He stays true to the thinking and mindset that past GOP leaders are now
criticising the GOP for.

The article was about the perceptions of the majority of Americans toward
the GOP.
And though I haven't found the stats, I think they mirror the feelings of
the world toward the GOP.
So whether Democrats started the KKK (And then left the party to be
republicans) is irrelevant.

So the question Sam, is not necessarily whether you agree or not, the
question is what do you propose to change that perception?
And it is the same question that the GOP spokesman as noted in the article,
never even addressed.

A growing extremist leadership within the world's only Superpower should be
of concern to everyone.
