Our issue is there is no regulation at the school. So we have to have an
account in case our daughter or wife forgets to put the lunch in her bag she
needs to eat and gets what the school offers. She has an issue with the red
dye problems but there is no one there to tell her no and sometimes although
she knows its wrong she will eat it anyways and be wired when she gets home.
Sometimes this effects school work because she eats so early (School starts
at 845 and she is first class to eat at 1050). If we make chocolate and she
takes it in her lunch great, but its like when I went to school and could
just buy ice cream for the day. They didn't check our lunch cards as long as
we had cash. I don't need my kids doing that.

Subject: What do you all think of this?

My thoughts are this. If a child is eligible for free or reduced-cost meals
in school, then yes, you can control what they eat in school. However, if
the school offers an a la carte menu as well, and the kid has the money to
buy these items, then they should be free to buy whatever they want. I mean,
if a kid wants to have a cup cake in school, they will either buy it or
bring one from home.

Now of course I can see the side where you have health conscious parents who
do not allow junk food in their house, and they send their kid to school and
don't want them buying junk food. But the temptation is there and unless the
kid is well disciplined, they just might go ahead and thumb their nose at
their parents and eat a bag of Doritos and wash it down with a monster.
These are the kind of parents that will welcome this decision. But again, I
think that kids should be able to eat whatever they want if it's offered. I
see this as yet another example of lazy parents letting the school raise
their kids.

It was really nice back in the stone age when I was in school, and all the
school did was educate. They left the raising of the kids to the parents.
