The article did a good job of articulating my reasons for supporting a
limited military strike against Syria (presuming that the evidence against
Assad is solid and not made up, of course).

In a nutshell, Syria is fucked. We aren't going to be able to "bring
democracy to Damascus". We aren't going to be able to help install a
stable, secular, pro-Western government regardless of whether we invade,
provide no-fly zones, or leave them the fuck alone.

Thousands more will die, millions more will be displaced. Nothing we
really do or say will change that at this point.

However, there still is a tenuous agreement internationally that chemical
weapons are verboten. It doesn't make war civilized but it is at least
something. Something that a broad set of people can agree on for a fairly
long period of time. Personally, I think that that agreement is something
worth action to try and preserve.

A limited strike based around disabling capabilities for chemical weapons
and punishing Assad's regime for their use seems like a worthwhile thing to
me. It will not really help or hurt the current situation in Syria. To me,
it is something aimed at a broader idea and done to hopefully influence
something that is still possible to influence.

Cheers,
Judah
