But, that success also comes at a price.  Germany has the highest cost for 
electricity (per KwH) of any country in the world.  So I guess if you want 
to sink a huge chunk of your GDP into centralized solar power, then great, 
but your citizens will pay for it.  Dearly.  

The success in Australia lies in the fact that it's individuals, not 
centralized power companies, that are driving the boom.  That makes sense 
to me and will likely be the way the US goes once the cost per KwH starts 
to come down here in the states.  Sinking 20-30K into stand alone solar is 
still out of reach for the majority of households here.  Plus, with our 
energy costs being relatively low to begin with, the cost/benefit ratio 
gets stretched way out in recouping your investment dollars.
