Abraham was born in Ur in Sumerian The Israelis descended from him. So how could they be the original peoples of Canaan?. God granted Canaan to Abraham, but nowhere in any text I have ever read - biblical or secular - does it claim that the Hebrews the Aboriginal people of Canaan.
Even if you take it biblically, Canaan was the home of the house of Ham, son of Noah. Abraham is descended from the house of Shem. So at best he would have been cousin to the Canaanites, many generations removed. Secular history puts ancient Canaan in the hands of many peoples, but none of them Hebrew. It was only ever their homeland because of the claim that God granted it to Abraham as the promised land and then they took it by force.
