Ok if they aren't poor bastards what are they? Keeping in mind poor bastards
is pretty much the same as poor souls its just another saying.
And #1 you make sure you can get water to level that have their water pipes
severed to the ground. So you have water in several reservoirs throughout
the building, allowing you to cover areas in the event of middle of the
building hit.
You could also use retardants etc etc.

Its not unrealistic, its improbable but its defiantly do able. The WTC was
build to withstand the hit of a 707 which was way smaller then the planes
that hit but to a degree it would have taken the burning but the sprinklers
were knocked out. Its just a matter of planning that's all.
