There are more dynamics involved in the economy than the just people spending money. TO counter your point, when we have a recession, people get layed off so there is not tax revenue from them anymore no? I would be for the flat tax as well. I think that the current system definitely needs fixed.

Just think what happen's now with income tax when people/business stop spending, it either means we are in a recession or about to go in one(and thats why fixed income tax). Now think what happens when that fixed money(income tax) isn't flowing around. There are many other costs other than just food/shelter that come in to play. A flat income tax I could see, I may not agree with it but I can see how it would play out. A National Sales Tax, there are just to many variables that come into play it will not work. The % you would need to tax on would have to be substantial, it would price some items out of their market.... >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 07/17/02 04:44PM >>> The government having less money does not stop the economy dead. Getting by = food and shelter two things that are not taxed with a national sales tax. -----Original Message----- From: Michael Ross [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, July 17, 2002 3:39 PM To: CF-Community Subject: RE: Shake it up some Yes it hits equally but the closer you are to just getting by the more it will hurt you, and that is way more important the hitting equally.. Just paying equally on spending will create an even bigger seperation between the rich and the poor.........that will hurt the country enormously.... You can't not have a tax that depends on spending. People tighten their wallets what happen's......boom, the economy stops dead...It will start a even larger market for cash payments... The list goes on and on..... >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 07/17/02 04:23PM >>> It hits everyone equally, you spend you pay. -----Original Message----- From: Larry Lyons [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, July 17, 2002 3:17 PM To: CF-Community Subject: RE: Shake it up some And it hits the poor far harder than those who make a better than decent living. larry -- Larry C.
