Just to ask, where and how is your access point mounted and how is your 
laptop oriented?

I have to say that I'm not to trusting of SMC's site, they say the 
antenna on the access point is an, "External Dipole" and I'm currently 
downloading the 9.6 Mb TIFF image (!?!?)
