What will you be doing with the new box? I ask because modern processors run really, really hot and multiprocessor boxes require particular attention to cooling. More cooling typically means more fans which means more noise. The reason I've avoided going MP for my personal computer is that I don't really want a noisy space heater right by my legs. Which probably explains why Wheatly has an air-conditioner in his :-)
As for Athlon vs Intel, they're both wonderful. I find that the Athlon systems I've built have all required a little more attention to bios updates, drivers, etc than the Intel systems. That means that an Intel system can go together in a day and by two days later I know its stable. With the Athlon system, it goes together just as fast, but I usually spend a week with a new motherboard to make sure it's all good. -Kevin Graeme > -----Original Message----- > From: Duane Boudreau [mailto:duane@;cfexperts.com] > Sent: Thursday, November 07, 2002 8:04 AM > To: CF-Community > Subject: RE: Main/Mother - board Questions > > > I must admit I am prejudiced towards Intel, but maybe its time to consider > Athlon.
