Paul,

The demon of self-doubt can be crippling, so hang in there and don't let
yourself get too bummed. And if it gets bad, be sure to talk to your doctor,
cause depression can be life-threatening! I have found that if you keep
pushing, especially when an opportunity falls through, there is usually
something better on the other side.
It took me almost a year to find a job after I got laid off, but the one I
have lets me go home and sleep at night and I don't have to commute and the
people are decent. And even though I'm working in tech support I am getting
paid on par with my last coding job: not great, but not bad either. I have
been fortunate.
You really don't want to lose perspective, cause you need it now. You may
have other talents that you have not leveraged or developed as much that you
might want to bring into your thinking to open up new possibilities, for
example I leveraged my knowledge of French to get my current job.
Keep your eyes on the prize and your hands on the rudder, and keep on
sailing!

best wishes,

        Patrick Harkins
