I am going to respond to this by explaining everyone's point of view to each
other, and hopefully all will get what everyone else was saying by the time
it is all through.

In common parlance, the word Nimrod refers to one who is exceedingly clumsy
or else incapable of common logic to the point of detriment but not
disaster. This is probably a shaded biblical reference to Nimrod's role in
constructing the tower of babel, which (as we all know) was meant to reach
to heaven and eventually fell to leave the builders all incapable of
speaking a common tongue. To have a Nimrod circling over one's city would be
somewhat ironic, not to mention the military force which chose to give this
name to their craft. Bugs Bunny once favored this word, along with maroon,
as a way of characterizing his enemies.

On the other hand, the historic figure of Nimrod was certainly anything but
a clusterf*ck in progress. He was a native of what is now Ethiopia and built
and empire which spanned through Babylon and Uruk. His name literally means
'let's revolt', or something like that, so there is almost a romantic
element to the man and his ambitions. A good article about him can be found
here: http://members.aol.com/XianAnarch/nimrod_1.htm.

Obviously, the Brits stuck with the latter meaning when choosing this name,
but the irony is not lost on those of us over here in America.
