I was in the USMC at the time. We had been married 6 months and she decided to get a new boyfriend. I was due to go to 29 Stumps, California on a six-week training mission from Camp Lejeune. We decided to go ahead and get a separation - she would take the car that was in both of our names and make payments on it and move out of our house. We signed the sep papers (after begging her to do so, she missed three meetings to do so), but two days later she (on advice from the bf) decides to call my Command's Sergeant Major to tell him that I kicked her out of the house and she was broke, and that I had treated her badly. So I go up to see the SM, and he informs me that the housing pay that the good ol' USMC gives me is actually for her. (Keep in mind that she can't hold a job, refused to work.) I manage to produce the separation agreement which states that she gets nothing. Lucky me, I had just managed to get that thing signed two days previous and had to go to the trailer where she was living with bf and actually wail and cry to get her to do it. Thank God he (SM) saw the light and told me that since the sep agreement was signed I didn't owe her a thing. So I leave on my deployment. Six weeks goes by in Cali - 40 days and nights of drunken revelry in the desert with my good Marine buddies. I get back from Cali, and get the call from her that she needs money and she hasn't made any payments on the car. She and the new bf are living with some other guy and that guy's wife and kid, but she is so broke that she doesn't have enough money to eat. She and bf have put 10 thousand miles on the car in these six weeks. She wants me to give her some money, legally take the car back (as in the sep agreement) and then let her drive around in it until she's ready to move back home to Atlanta in a few months. So I make a plan with my friends... I tell her that I can give her everything that she wants - money, make the payments, and she can keep the car as well as long as she wants. The only thing that I want is to have the sep agreement modified so that I have the car back in my possession legally. I tell her to meet me at the lawyer's office on Wednesday at 4:30 so make the paperwork changes. She agrees to do so. I have my friend with me, out of her sight. She comes into the office, bf in tow. After we make the paperwork changes, she walks back out to the car - to find my friend waiting there with a cop that he has explained the situation to. The officer asks if I have the paperwork signed, and after verifying it, orders the wife to give me the keys to the car. At this point, I and my friend get out this HUGE bag and take all of her clothes out of the car's trunk(where they've been for weeks) and put them into the bag. She and the bf are just standing there on a street corner with a bag of clothes, she's fuming, telling me how wrong I am to do this to her. After we're done, I hand her a bus ticket, 30 bucks for taxi and food, and tell her "Take your ass back home to Atlanta." And I drove off in the car. God that was a great day.
