I used to buy the very top of the line always. Then I realized that by 
buying a notch or two lower I was spending about 1/3 as much. Sorta like a 
used car I guess. The drawback to this theory though is that by the time 
you do upgrade, you don't dare tell anyone the specs of your computer <g>
