You also may want to check into renting a car (read minivan) with built in carseats.

Also as Jeff said, if there is a seat available or purchased for the child then you can use the carseat on the plane. We took a bungee cord and strapped our carseat to the stroller to make carrying it around easier... worked like a charm.
