I suggest you disable suspend and hibernation. This is recommended by
Microsoft.

1. Run Chkdisk and check the box (detect errors)
2. Run the defrag utility on the drive Probably good to run it twice.
3. Obtain from Microsoft and run the utility "Regclean.exe) which will clean up
the registry.

Following these three steps, you might well find out you will not have to
reformat and the speed improvement will be very noticeable..

Subject: Time to format

| Ok, it's been around 9-12 months since my last format of my machine.
| WinXp is running slowly now and refuses to wake up from Suspend or
| Hibernation, so it's time to backup data and format. So now the
| question is..........Win2k or WinXP. Thoughts on this anyone. The
| machine I'm talking about it an IBM thinkpad A31. It came with Win2k
| preinstalled, but I formatted and installed WinXP about 6 months after I
| got it. I think that Win2k might have run faster on this one, but then
| again the slowdown might be because of WinXP's SP1. Thanks for any info.
