I've actually done multi page pdf files using FDFs... you just have to have a standardized format and check the number of records that you have to handle.  Our Purchase Requisition docs can have multitudes of line items, so I have versions of the PDF that handle those (with the corresponding FDF files).  It works alright, though I am beginning to look at the Apache FOP and XSL-FO for creating truly dynamic PDFs without having to purchase anything from Adobe...

Do you mean fdf?  You can use them for all sorts of neat stuff, so long as
it's just one page long. You can even design the form in Adobe, then use cf
to fill them out and stuff.  I think Pablo has a tutorial on his site about
  that.

We were just talking about that sort of thing around here. There's another
file that you can generate that's basically a text only file that will hold
the form answers. If you have both the pdf form and the text file (I forget
what it's called) you'll end up with a filled in form.... Of course, I dont'
  remember the details.
