Is the symbol a graphic or a movieclip?

Thank you very much, but I don't think that will work for me.  I only want one symbol to have a transparent background.  This should be easy but it's not for some reason.

    Flash question:

Hi everyone, I have a quick flash question:

I have a symbol that has a black background.  I want the background to be transparent.  I've tried erasing it but for some reason my erasing doesn't work - the area just fills in again, even though I'm on "normal erase".  Any tips?

    Thanks,
    - Matt Small
