money I've lost to this new policy banks have to "print money" errrhmmm I
mean service charges.
I've just had it happen again yesterday and today. My computer is down, so
I've don't have my usual up to date checking balance. Did a quick check on
Wednesday to see how much I had to live on till pay day tomorrow. Came up
with about $50 dollars. So bought some gas $20 ATM, KFC $14 ATM,
Miscellaneous purchase $7. Should have been fine. Checked today, found out
a check I had written nearly a month ago for $38 that I hadn't adjusted for
when I did my quick check just cleared. As you can guess, the ATM charges
started coming up OVERDRAFT $18 OVERDRAFT $18 OVERDRAFT $18, buy the time I
get my paycheck deposited tomorrow the Bank is going to have nearly $100 of
my money.
I think we need to organize a effort to make the banks have to give some
kind of notice BEFORE they assess the charges. If I hadn't looked at my
account on-line today, I wouldn't have known about the problem for another
two or three days when I get the notices in the mail. Seems to me the bank
should have to wait until a customer has had a fair chance to be informed of
the charges BEFORE they take them out, letting the customers blindly spend
money he thinks he has, incurring even more charges.

Doing all that just isn't my style. I'm upset with what they did to me but
I'm also fearful of it happening to others. The warning not to use Astoria
is both 'vengence' and public service. Having your credit ruined for $120 of
virtual money is not something that should happen to anyone.
