Maybe it's two separate games being played simultaneously in split screen? I
looked at some games that had it (Rogue Squadron and Need for Speed) and I
can see how you might have a race where you want to see which one can finish
a particular race first but not both people in the race together and not
taking turns racing.

Just a thought.
