"People should be smarter than this in the first place" ??

The same people that need warning labels to remind them not to blow dry their hair while still in the shower?  Reminds me of a Non-Sequitur comic strip...tourist-looking guy leaning over a railing over a ditch...large sign posted:

"Welcome to the Darwinian Genepool Preserve.  Go Ahead and Lean Over the Safety Rail as Far as You Like and Hand Feed the Carnivores".

There really does need to be a place like that...and everybody should be required to visit once a year (well, that's what would happen if *i* were the king of the world anyway)   : )

To put this into perspective, this is the equivalent of waterproofing one's car and trying to take a transatlantic road trip. When something goes wrong, the Coast Guard has to come and save you, but it is really a pain and a waste of resources. People should be smarter than this in the first place.

I read the article in the Washington Post about this guy. A couple of years
ago he flew up to the North Pole in an antique Stinson biplane. He wrecked
it on the way back. Given what was needed to rescue the guy, this sort of
stunt I am not impressed with. Search and Rescue in the high arctic is
  stretched enough as it is.
