You pretty much trade off. I just moved to Ontario from the states. My
mother-in-law died from bone cancer that could have been prevented with
a routine bone scan after her breat cancer operation. We have no real
proof and why go after the medical field? She's gone...it was her time.

What I'm saying is that you give up certain aspects of healthcare, laws,
society in exchange for cleaner cities, less crime, more nature parks,
etc. etc.

I prefer it up here but then again, I'm still new. This truely is
America Jr. though. Maybe America-Light is a better term.

You know what kills me? A developer here in Canada with - "3 years
experience in Coldfusion, Java, _javascript_, SQL Server, excellent
communication skills and a bachelors degree. Pluses include Lotus Notes
and
J2EE." will make about $15 an hour or maybe $35,000/yr - Canadian.
That's
like $25,000 USD or so. Of course our taxes our higher and our cost of
living is higher, plus we also have the benefit of 6 to 8 months of
frozen
hell. Don't get me started on our supposed universal health care. I
would
have gladly paid $5,000 for my Dad to have had an MRI on his heart right
away instead of waiting a year just to watch him lose 130 pounds and die
because they thought it was a problem with his liver. But they didn't
want
to book the tests, because they were under pressure from the gov't to
not
spend money on tests uneccessarily. Nevermind that he had full medical
coverage from his gov't job. And because of our non-litigious nature up
here, the doctor walks away with an 'Ooops' attitude. Did I mention they
were under pressure because the federal funds for provincial health care
went to road building because it was an election year?

Bloody hell, I'm getting my degree and getting the heck out of this
country.
All this socialism is going to be the death of us. The US may have a
frickin' war mongerer in office, but at least when your troops get sent
somewhere they don't go in planes that their grandfather's flew. Argh
--calming down now, going to my happy place---
