I agree totally with the sentiments in the article. I have telecommuted in the
past and I am way more productive. Today, my boss interrupted me five times in
50 minutes (i counted) to vent about a programmig problem he was having...he
didn't want help or advice, he just wanted to vent. Every time he interruped
me, I totally lost my train of thought...

I think that the situation is improving, though. A personal example:
Eighteen months ago I interviewed for a contract position with a large local
employer. They would only allow telecommuting one day a week, so I passed on
the job. In three weeks I start a three-month (sure to be extended if they
like my work) contract with the same company, and I will only be going into the
office one day a week.

I live in the Tampa Bay area and there just aren't a lot of CF programmers
available, it seems. I have seen the same jobs posted for weeks, even months.
Sometimes you'll see a job posted for a few weeks, then two months later, it's
reposted... So I don't think that there are a lot of _quality_ programmers
available. My theory is that when the dotcom boom went bust, all the wannabe
programmers went back to their real jobs, so now there are a lot fewer of us.

My $.02,
Kathryn

I would LOVE to start forwarding this link to any of the jobs that come
over CF-Jobs that have 'NO TELECOMMUTING' listed in there. :)
