Depends what kind of firewall you want to run - if you're looking for
a dedicated firewall for a corporate network, you can't go past
something like smoothwall or freeSco (free version of scounix) both of
which can be run from a cd, which is nice and secure...

On the other hand, Atomic MPC magazine featured a step by step for a
stateful firewall in issue 21 - a stateful firewall basically drops
everything coming in, (so scanners don't even see your network) except
for transmissions that originated on the inside of your network.  It
also handle forwarding and masquerading for a lan to connect it to the
