I agree. Implementing compression at the application/convention layer is unlikely to deploy well. At the library layer, it has a good chance. The only argument for convention layer compression is that library compression is likely to be generic and one can probably do better with more dataset-specific compression. However, I suspect that'd then be too specific for CF!
