Dear Randy While I understand why this would be convenient for you, I'm inclined to think that your convenience would be outweighed by the inconvenience to the users of the data in this case. I don't expect there is any existing CF-aware analysis software which would expect to unpack coordinate variables, so the likely consequence is that the coordinates would be presented to the user as packed values, which isn't what you intend.
