Hi all,

Appendix B. "Standard Name Table Format" states that "[t]he purpose of
the alias elements are to provide a means for maintaining the table in a
backwards compatible fashion". However, it isn't really clear (at least
to me) if entry terms in the standard name table should be preferred
over alias terms.

... Just found this in the "About the CF Standard Name Table" page:

  "The use of an alias for the standard_name attribute when
  writing new data is not recommended."

Perhaps some discussion of standard name aliases should be added to
Section 3.3 "Standard Name"?
