As part of the CMIP6 OMIP data request, I would like to request the new
standard name

square_of_sea_surface_salinity (units: 0.001^2)
Sea surface salinity is usually abbreviated as "SSS". It is the salinity of sea
water near the surface (including the part under sea-ice, if any), and not the
skin salinity (as obtained by satellite retrievals). For the salinity of sea
water at a particular depth or layer, a data variable of sea_water_salinity
with a vertical coordinate axis should be used. "square_of_X" means X*X.

This new quantity is the direct salinity counterpart to the existing
square_of_sea_surface_temperature.

This should complete all standard names required for the OMIP physics data
request (https://goo.gl/Rhrcwp)
https://github.com/cmip6dr/CMIP6_DataRequest_VariableDefinitions/issues/291

Thanks,

P
