The main points of this ticket relate to adding missing parameters, not about making semi_major_axis inverse_flattening and semi_minor_axis mandatory. Indeed it would be a bit tricky deciding which CRS/grid_mapping definitions require radius values. I would say offhand to make them mandatory in any grid_mapping definition, but that is probably very restrictive and cause some disruptions. This is indeed a problem in the CF standard - what is the default sphere radius if none is given? It should probably be addressed in another ticket/discussion, which I cannot start due to time constraints.
