It is part of a CFC function.
I have also tried to make two queries instead of one.

update #variables.tableprefix#forums
set viewcount = viewcount-#getThreadData.views#
where id = '#getThreadData.forumidfk#'

same thing.

I have <cfdumped query getThreadData and the values returned are correct.
