thanks so much for your help, this is wonderful:)

Yes when I fixed the code, the cfupdate throws a weird error, as it  
seems to be looking for a fieldname in the database of update. I will  
try this method today, and yes I agree it will help me with getting a  
better handle with SQL.
I am planning to convert everything to use cfc, which was the point  
of me learning the simple query version:)
