I agree with Ray,

If you are using MSSQL then as part of your insert do this as well

SELECT @@IDENTITY AS recordId

Make sure the cfquery has a name and you should be able to do this

queryNamer.recordId

If you are using another database other than MS SQL then look up how they
get the inserted record id.
