MySQL is a fully fledged monster of a database. It is also reputed to be
one of the fastest dbs out there. It misses out on transactions (provides
a lock table function though) and subselects (can get around using inner
joins).
As to providing a GUI interface...you may find that the client programs
for Windows do do this (can anybody confirm).
GUI interfaces can make you lazy, as you can avoid using installation
scripts to create system data. This then causes problems when you try and
do a remote install.

Subject: CF Linux vs NT benchmarks available?
CF linux with MySQL seems to be the logical alternative to CF NT and
Access - Has anyone done any comparisons with application performace on
both platforms?
Also any recommendations on how to handle Access databases on Linux? I've
seen a script for a vba module that spits out a script to import into
mysql by it would be nice in there was a simple odbc driver for access
that lets you use the access db on the same box without fiddling around!
cheers,
Ed.
