Do you have a network card installed? If not, you can have all kinds of
problems with applications that use TCP/IP, even if some of them appear to
work correctly. I've encountered situations where, even with a network card
installed, there would be problems if it wasn't plugged in. Admittedly, I
haven't run into problems like this with CFMX, though.
You may want to install the MS Loopback Adapter, which is a "virtual"
network card. I had to do this to allow me to use the Pocket PC emulator for
debugging PPC apps while my machine wasn't connected to the network.

For what it's worth, I haven't had any problems with either W2K SP3 or SP4
and any version of CFMX, and I've worked with a lot of installations. I
suspect that people having those problems are in the distinct minority,
which is why you might not hear any official answer from MM. It's very hard
for them to respond to comparatively rare problems, especially if they can't
reproduce the problems themselves.
