As of now, we don't.  We're still running CF5.

There are a few small Access datbases on the server, but for the most 
part, the web sites use an external db server.

Whoops. GB/MB, what's a factor of 1000 between friends?

The web sites themselves are mostly read only - not a lot of user input, 
just the display of information pulled from databases.  We run our own ad 
server on the main web server, with a funky algorithm for pulling ads. 
This tends to add a bunch of small queries to every page.  We also do a 
lot of tracking of what was viewed, so end up with a fair number of small 
queries.  On average I'd say about 20-25 small queries per page.  Large 
data sets only occasionally during off hours for some large newsletter 
mailings to 100k+ subscribers.
