Whoops. GB/MB, what's a factor of 1000 between friends? The web sites themselves are mostly read only - not a lot of user input, just the display of information pulled from databases. We run our own ad server on the main web server, with a funky algorithm for pulling ads. This tends to add a bunch of small queries to every page. We also do a lot of tracking of what was viewed, so end up with a fair number of small queries. On average I'd say about 20-25 small queries per page. Large data sets only occasionally during off hours for some large newsletter mailings to 100k+ subscribers. > On Nov 5, 2004, at 12:15 PM, Jim McAtee wrote: > >> I'm looking at purchasing some servers to run Win2k3/IIS6 and CFMX 6.1. >> Our current Win2k/IIS5/CF5 servers run comfortably in 1 MB of RAM. >> Should >> 2 MB of RAM on the new servers be sufficient for the new OS and CF >> version >> given the same web sites, applications and traffic levels? >> >> Given a fixed budget, where is it best to spend money in regard to disk >> system speed vs. CPU speed and CPU cache for a Win2k3/CFMX system? 10k >> vs. 15k SCSI drives, 2.4 GHz dual Xeons vs. 3.0 GHz Xeons, 512 KB CPU >> cache vs. 1 MB? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Special thanks to the CF Community Suite Gold Sponsor - CFHosting.net http://www.cfhosting.net Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:10:5052 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/10 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:10 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.10 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
