The only things that spring to mind is that CF8 Comes with Java 6 and an Updated Jrun, I identified with the ceasing of JRun Feature Development there will be an Updater 7 and thus should help.
I would suggest you run each of your ColdFusion instances with their own JVM Configs. And Install CF 8 on a desktop Machine to get the copy of the JVM it installs a default and tweak for your server as required.
