The person to whom you responded, Jochem, is the most knowledgeable CF person I know. And he's quite helpful. So, your reaction is quite unwarranted - when asking for help, you can at least observe the customs of the people who can help you. Those customs exist for a reason. That said, with regard to your original question, you'll simply need to open the requisite ports on your border gateway/firewall to your database server, and make the connections from your CF Administrator. Your CF hosting provider shouldn't have to do anything too special. Of course, this is a terribly bad idea, since it will severely degrade performance and security.
