Yes, Excel needs to be installed on the server for this to work. A fairly
inexpensive option given what you can do.

You can use the CF_EXCEL tags instead, which create a plain CSV file
that would not require EXCEL. But then you lose all of the formating
capabilities the the CFX tag will allow.

Basically the CFX_EXCEL tag is a wrapper to a com interface to the
M$ Excel objects that do all of the work...
