You can use ValueList(getids.id) to create a list of ids from the query, no
need to loop for that.

If you have gaps do the following:
<cfquery name=getids datasource=mydsn>
select ID from table
</cfquery>
<cfset ID_list ="">
<loop query=getids>
<cfset ID_List = #ListAppend(ID_List, ID)#
</cfoutput>
Now grab a position
<cfset Position = RandRange(1,#get_count.recordcount#)>
Grab the article
<cfquery name="get_art" datasource="someData">
select article from someTable
where ID = #ListGetAt(ID_List, position)#
</cfquery>
Using this you can have a list with following IDS 1,3,5,6
and garantee that all ID can be retreived.
