Sorry I'm a little tired today. ;-)

My point was that this firewall issue challenges the penetration of any
product or service developed on this platform...maybe there's no choice from
a technical perspective... I don't know...would just like confirmation or an
explanation...

Let's say for example that you offer third party help desk services...you
develop an interactive experience right on the web site...who knows...maybe
even video interaction or real time chat...well it'll work great for "some"
users...but forget targeting users of corporate America because the
applications can't be loaded unless every company opens firewall ports? LoL

Ok, ok maybe an over dramatization but I think it makes my
point...please...someone tell me I'm off base here...

Please clarify a bit more - you want to limit the reach of your
product/service OR you want to _avoid_ limiting the reach.

Right...I'm thinking I terms of any product or service *I* want to offer
and
have it be limited in it's reach...

After reading the docs - the server runs on ports 80 & 1935 - if you
want to access Flash Comm content, open these ports on your firewall.

I have to agree that it is going to prove to be an issue as many
individuals/corporations have most ports (including 1935) blocked.
Without digging into how the server works - a user will be in the dark
as to what went wrong.

Technically sure...but there's no chance our network admins would open
that
up just for kicks...

Stacy...

Can you open port 1935? AFAIK that is the Flash Comm port.

Hi Tyler, no I meant accessing from the client side. It appears the
Flash
player requires more than just port 80 to stream...so from behind our
corporate firewall I can't access any Flashcom objects on any web site.

Hi Stacy,

If your Flash Comm server is on a separate box, that doesn't have a
webserver on it, move the Flash Comm RTMP service to port 80 and access
it like this

rtmp:80/your_app <- I'm pretty sure the port def goes on the left there
like that. All the stuff I've been reading is at home today, so I don't
have it in front of me.

That is assuming 80 is open on your firewall, or move it to any other
port that is open on your firewall and you're not using on the server,
so your Flash Comm Server can then use it. That's about the only thing
I can think of at this point.

HTH,

t

Can anyone suggest a strategy for Flash Com projects and Firewalls?
Internally we can't use squat due to additional ports required by the
Flash player to use Flash Com components.

MM's Executive overview is a good example...it'll startup but stop when
the video is about to commence...with no notification as to why it's not
playing...just sits there dead...leaving the user wondering what the
heck's going on.

Cheers,

Stace
