Seriously, I do this in my cms, albeit not for quite the same reason.  I have a whole 
slew of subsidiary screens to the main content editor that manage different aspects of 
the current page.  The client var, set right when I selected the page to work on in 
the first place, lets me always return to the main editor with the proper page's data 
on the screen.
