I've posted some usage stats from a busy site that I run here:

I'm not saying it's perfect.  We're still running CF 4.5 and being
hosted on a shared (and not that powerful) server, but it deals
admirably well under load.

5.0 is much more capable than 4.5 when it comes to massive load and
multi-threading.  I've another article that details some tests in that
regard (and someday I'll get around to do the same with MX):

In short, my answer would be "yes, ColdFusion can easily handle such
traffic".  This, of course, assumes that the application isn't its own
worst enemy (that it's written well and takes its load into account).
