I am currently designing a search function for an
application. The search has many parts to it such as
allowing the user to designing the results they
receive from their search in the format they want. I
also want to allow external applications to pass
search requests to the app and have results sent back.
The issue I have is the 'resources' a person can
search on can change on a daily basis as well as the
fields of those resources. I want to use XML for the
search so I can build one 'search engine' that can
process an internal' search request as well as a
request sent by an external source. I think if
everything is done in XML now it will help later if we
move the external search to a web service. If anybody
has some experience with this sort of thing, maybe you
could point me in the right direction or if someone
knows of a tutorial or book I can look at, it will be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
JS
