I'm sure you've probably covered it, but, just in case... Would he accept a "page" or "text message" to his phone? Something that is sent to an email address that forwards to his phone, instead? Most phones now have that capability, but in the event his doesn't, it would be a hell of a lot easier (and probably cheaper) to upgrad to that solution than to spend all the time researching, finding and implementing a solution like hat you're looking for.
