AFAICR Enterprise supports more processors, has robust load balancing built
in and higher capacity for enterprise data warehousing applications. also
the list prices for licensing is currently approx $20k for enterprise
whereas Standard Edition is about $4k

can someone explain to me, very high level, what the difference is
between

sql server 2000 Standard Edition
sql server 2000 Enterprise Edition

we have 2000 ent edition on our servers now, however we are about to
configure 2 new ones, and my software ordering guys, got us standard
edition instead of what we already have, which is enterprise edition.
