I'll second the notion for a DTS package. I've been using them
extensively lately to build downloadable subsets of data from SQL into
an Access DB and they're FAST! Although I didn't have much luck running
a DTS package from CF - I ended up writing an ASP script that handles
the DTS package and I call it via CFHTTP and have the ASP script return
a status code of success or fail. It's pretty easy and very powerful.

If you're interested I can send you the ASP script to run the DTS
package.

What creating a DTS package which accepts a few parameters from CF. The
DTS would run the query, and export it also, like lickety split too.

We're on SQL Server 7.0.

I should add that the query itself doesn't seem to be the problem -- it
returns in a matter of seconds. The lag is almost certainly happening in
the process of looping through the query results and appending each line
to the file.

Thanks.
