This OT message is posted with permission. Michael Dinowitz, the cfguru who maintains this list, recently suffered a catastrophic system failure on his personal computer. It looks as though he has lost everything but the hard drive, and is reduced to using an old laptop for development and correspondence.
The members of the CF-Community list today decided to hold a 'cyberthon' to assemble a replacement computer to send to him. The way this works is that people offer to send in gently used, working components for the replacement, items they may have sitting around at home like hard drives, chips, RAM, motherboards, etc. These will be assembled into a working system and delivered to Mr. Dinowitz once it is completed. Anyone interested in participating in this cyberthon, please take a look at the following list of components and see if there is anything you may have to add. Our goal is to send him a complete system with the best performance possible, so if anyone has any parts they can spare to add to this list, please feel free to offer. People have offered to send in money, I personally think this is a neat idea but there are probably some sticky issues with it, so... please, unless you want to contribute shipping charges directly, limit your contributions to component parts only. This cyberthon will run through the end of the week. The master list of donations will be maintained over on CF-Community, and can be viewed from there. Mr. Dinowitz will have the opportunity to select the component parts to make up his new computer then, and donators will be contacted afterwards.
