I've actually done a pretty nasty hack to get around it for now - the
ErrorDocument goes to a perl (cgi) script (so the http_referer is
available), which then does a redirect to the 404.cfm page, passing the
value of the http_referer as a URL variable which I can use.

Not tidy, but it works...
