Consequences of too many #

I am looking back at some code I wrote when I was learning CF and typically I used too many # signs.  

For example I have lots of these: <cfset firstsweep = #GetToken(individualfilename, 1, "news")#>.

My application is working fine but between being lazy and scared, should I go back and clean up all my # signs or does CF work just as well with them in?
