recently i ran into some problems with remoting and such using the v2 components.

1. u cant natively preload the version 2 components as is. u have 2 do a work around to do it.

2. the new data components wont preload at all and u cant effectively use them off of the 1st frame, which basically makes them pretty damn useless. (this is the 1st time i have been pissed at MM)

3. the data bindings components really only add 1 simple line of code, grrrrrrr

the new remoting component was awesome! less than a minute to make movie and connect!
BUT, just using the remoting component, a dataset component & a Datagrid made the flash movie 120 kb and u couldnt preload it & the remoting call had to be on 1st frame. So basically worthless.

So i told Paul Newman at www.communitymx.com that i would make a small app and do it all except implementing the new v2 remoting classes, if he'd do an article on it. And so it is, Case Study: Using the New Flash Remoting Classes at www.communitymx.com.

this case study not only includes remoting but the following
* preloading the v2 components
* defining the cfc
* making a contact form utilizing the new validation classes on drk 7 (awesome!) and sending the email via remoting through the cfc
* populating a listbox with a query run by the new remoting classes via cfc
* opening and displaying selected record from listbox in seperate movieclip in textarea with a photo display

basically, i tried to take what i heard most ppl having problems with and have them implemented into this small app. At the sametime MM releases the V2 remoting classes so I wanted it to include the newest classes as of which no tuts existed yet.

If u want to see the app (although the graphics have changed) you may view it at

and the case study is at

entitled
Case Study: Using the New Flash Remoting Classes

if you are just getting into it or brushing up on it, this is a must read! :)

and thanks to Paul Newman (author of "The Joy of Dreamweaver MX: Recipes for Data-Driven Web Sites") http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=TI33Wlg9ld&isbn=0072224649&itm=1

he did a great job!!
and i must say that the coldfusion version of remoting simply rocks!!!!!!!!

if u have any ?'s please ask
